  • 1 teaspoon of chicken bouillon in powder
  • Box of unsalted beef broth, 32 oz.
  • 1/3 cup of dry red wine, such as Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot
  • It’s ideal to use 1/2 cup of low-sodium tomato sauce.
  • Two fresh bay leaves, or three dried
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano or Italian spice
  • 10 olives filled with pimento
  • 1 cup of thickly cut rings of carrot
  • 1 cup of potatoes, diced
  • Red wine vinegar, 1 to 2 tablespoons.

Instructions for Recipe

  1. Before cooking, add 2 teaspoons of adobo to the meat cubes.
  2. Over medium heat, add the olive oil to a Dutch oven.
  3. For a good brown crust, fry the steak in 2-3 batches for 3–5 minutes per side.
  4. Once the steak has been browned, set it aside.
  5. Add the sofrito and onions to the pan.
  6. Scrape the brown pieces off the pan’s bottom with a wooden spoon.
  7. Prepare the stew in accordance with the directions on the package, adding the Sazon, powdered chicken bouillon, beef stock, red wine, tomato sauce, bay leaves, and Italian spice.
  8. When the mixture reaches a boil, add the meat back in.
  9. Stir the sauce, cover it, and lower the heat once it has reached a simmering point. During the two hours when the Carne guisada is cooking, stir periodically.
  10. Cook for a further 30 minutes after including the potatoes, carrots, and olives.
  11. When the potatoes and carrots are fork-tender, Carne guisada is prepared. Season the stew to taste, then add the vinegar.
  12. Using powdered chicken bouillon, which is quite salty, you can add extra salt if necessary.
  13. Tostones, white rice, and salad make excellent sides.
