Tostones Rellenos De Pollo Recipe (Stuffed Plantain Cups)
Stuffed Plantain Cups, commonly known as Tostones Rellenos De Pollo, are delicious small cups filled with shredded beef and topped with mayonnaise and ketchup. They are a fun and delicious snack to present to friends and family, and they are simple to prepare.
This tostones rellenos de pollo fantastic recipe, which I’m sharing with you today, was helped inspired by an appetizer on one of my favorite restaurants’ menus.
Cabana, a delightful tiny Cuban restaurant in Queens, is always busy. The environment is relaxed and inviting, and the food is delicious.
The whole of their menu is delicious, but the Tostones Rellenos De Pollo is a must-order for me all the time.
Plantains are one of my favorite ingredients to utilize; if you’re unfamiliar with them, see my tips including how to peel plantains as well as how plantains compare to bananas.

How to Cook Perfect Tostones Rellenos De Pollo?
I can’t begin to express how fantastic these are. I made the tostones in the same way that you would make conventional tostones. Check out my tostones recipe if you’re not sure what I’m talking about.
I used a tostonera to produce the cups, which essentially pushes the plantains into cups. If you don’t have a tostonera, you can use a lemon squeezer, a standard tostonera, a dish plate, or a bottle to press the plantains into a disk, then mold the disk into a cup with your hands.
The plantain cup is then fried a second time, till golden brown and crispy.
Last but not least, fill the cups with your favorite filling. I packed my plantain cups with this delicious Slow Cooker Shredded Beef I had left over from the night before for this dish. I love it when I can make a meal out of just one ingredient. Don’t you think so?
Tostones rellenos de pollo can alternatively be made using shredded chicken.
Is it possible to prepare them ahead of time?
Yes, if you’re serving them to a large group, you can create the filling ahead of time to save time. I like to make the filling ahead of time and store it in the fridge for up to three days, covered. To ensure that the cups are absolutely crispy, fried them right before serving.
Can you pack plantain cups with yellow plantains?
For this recipe, I love green plantains, but if you don’t have any, you can use yellow. Green plantains are riper than yellow plantains.
Because they contain more sugar, I avoid using plantains that are beginning to exhibit dark patches. They will burn rather than be crisp when fried.
Recipe for Plantain Appetizers
I enjoy the presentation of these tostones rellenos on the platter. If you’re presenting them to guests who aren’t familiar with Caribbean cuisine, this will be an excellent introduction! The flavors are incredible, and the textures are out of this world!
Now go ahead and give it a shot. Please come back and let me know what you think. I’d love to hear your thoughts. Enjoy!
Notes and Recommendations
- Green plantains are preferred for this recipe, although yellow ones will suffice if you’re in a hurry. Avoid plantains with dark stains.
- Mix and match your fillings! These shredded beef ones are delicious, but you can also use chicken, fish, or whatever else you choose!
