Ingredients for Recipe

The rolls are:
- Sushi rice, 2 cups
- Rice wine vinegar, 2 tablespoons
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon of salt
- 6–8 nori sheets
- 8–10 asparagus stalks
- Avocado one
- 14 pounds of calamari (tubes only)
- Flour, one cup
- Tangy mayo (below)
Regarding the hot mayo
- 5 cups of mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon Sriracha
- Fish sauce and half a lime
Because of the dipping sauce
- 4 tbsp. soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon fish sauce
- 3 tablespoons of water
- One garlic clove
- 1 tiny knob of ginger and many basil leaves
- Sesame seeds, 1 teaspoon
Directions for the Recipe
- Wash the tubes well. They should be divided lengthwise, with each half being cut into narrow strips. Once again rinse them till the water is clear, and pat them dry. Put them in a bowl over a fine mesh sieve and put them in the refrigerator for a few hours so they can dry out a bit.
- Prepare the rice in the interim: The rice should be thoroughly rinsed by soaking it in a big bowl of cold water for five minutes. Until the water is clear, drain and go through this process once or twice more. 2 cups of rice and 2 cups of water should be combined before being heated to a boil. Set it to low once it has boiled, cover it, and let it simmer for fifteen minutes. After then, turn off the heat and give it 10 minutes to sit. With a fork, fluff.
- In a big bowl, combine the salt, sugar, and vinegar. Microwave on high for 15 seconds. Place the cooked sushi rice in the bowl with the mixture, then toss to evenly coat the rice. Await cooling
- Combine all the ingredients for the mayo in a sealable bag.
- Put all the ingredients for the dipping sauce in a small food processor, and pulse until smooth. This thing is fairly potent, so if it’s too much for you, add extra water to taste.
- Asparagus should be blanched and shocked. The avocado should be cut into thin wedges.
- To assemble, place a nori sheet in the “landscape” orientation on your cutting board (for any MS Word users out there). To prevent the rice from adhering to your hands, briefly wet your fingertips. Press the rice onto the nori sheet one handful at a time, leaving a thin strip of naked nori at the top. Place a few asparagus stalks, a few slices of avocado, and a squeeze of the hot mayo at the end that is closest to you (snip the corner off the bag and pipe out).
- In the meantime, cook the calamari in a few inches of oil after coating it with flour (we used olive oil, but you can use vegetable oil, sunflower oil, etc.) Don’t overcook it; you only need to fry it for a few minutes until the crust is a light golden color. Consider trying a few batches to see how they work for you.
- Start gradually rolling away from you at the stuffed side while tucking the edge under. To seal the end of the roll, dab a little water with your finger as you get close to the edge of the nori. Make sure the edge sticks by giving the roll a little shake with your palm.
- To create eight perfectly round pieces of sushi, divide the roll in half, then divide each half into quarters, and finally divide those quarters into halves.
- If desired, add more mayonnaise on top. Even though it takes a little longer to prepare, this dish is perfect for a gathering and will satisfy any appetite for Calamari Roll Sushi.
Tips for the Recipe of Roll Sushi
I have to say that this is the most disappointing sushi I have ever had. The calamari was chewy, and the rice was undercooked, which made it feel like I was eating rubber instead of fish.
I ordered the Calamari Roll Sushi and as you can see in the picture below, there were no real pieces of calamari in it. Instead, there were just these small strips of calamari that were very overcooked.
I ate about two bites before throwing this piece away because it tasted so bad. The rice was also undercooked and I could barely taste any flavor at all in each piece of fish.
The only thing that was good about this roll was the spicy mayo sauce that was on top of it. However, even with that sauce, this roll still wasn’t very good at all!
